About the project
For centuries, the Biodiversity Heritage Library has preserved meticulous, hand-colored engravings of the natural world. Created by scientists for the rigorous purpose of classification, these specimens are now surfacing from the archives and into the public domain.
Inspired by the Greek myth of the CHIMERA this project transforms biological record into a playground of imagination. By extracting wings, bodies, and limbs as individual layers, we dissolve traditional taxonomy to forge something entirely new. The result is a digital cabinet of "impossible beings"—creatures that never were, composed entirely of things that once existed. I invite you to begin your own expedition: Create your unique specimen, name it, and archive it.Source specimens
